We're
doing a lot with the resources we have.
Every year, DeafConnect of the Mid-South:
- Teaches 300 people a new language
- Helps 2,500 clients take steps toward independence
- Makes contact 13,000 times with clients
- Performs 14,000 hours of sign language
- Places over 100 hearing aids on needy individuals
In the Memphis area:
- 83,500 men and women are deaf and hard of hearing
- They comprise 10% of the total population
- 6696 are male, 34% are female
- 49% have a household income of less than $25,000 per year
- 46% have not completed high school
